I’ve never had the “happy gas” before at the dentist, and wow…I think they were trying to relax me, asking my where I’m from etc.
“Chelsea..” The dentist mused “That’s a great name, One of those names that used to not be a girls name, but now it is. And its lovely”
The assistant chimed in “Like Madison! They are places, but now they are names!”
I was half numb and stoned but blurted with out thinking “Chelsea means place by a river with glass deposits!”
They both laughed.
“Glassy river huh?”
"Not fun to swim.”
“Well try to relax, you are doing great, our river with glass…”
Then I passed out
Now I keep thinking about it. I always thought my name meaning was so lame, just a place description. But is it a metaphor?
A river, always moving, full of life but… below the surface its sharp. The rushing water belies the valuable and dangerous deposits underneath.
