This was an amazing event put on by sound sculptor Phil Klein. His annual Unsilent Night is a parade using boomboxes to play his CD's of unique blend of chime and vocal holiday sounds. Updating the traditional caroling, around 200 people gathered in NYC's Washington Square Park to march through the East Village. They stopped traffic and inspired onlookers with the mystical sounds. It was a truly magical holiday event that showed the power of public participatory art to bring joy to the mundane.
Yesterday I got my wisdom teeth yanked out. I’ve never had the “happy gas” before at the dentist, and wow…I think they were trying to relax me, asking my where I’m from etc. “Chelsea..” The dentist mused “That’s a great name, One of those names that used to not be a girls name, but now it is. And its lovely” The assistant chimed in “Like Madison! They are places, but now they are names!” I was half numb and stoned but blurted with out thinking “Chelsea means place by a river with glass deposits!” They both laughed. “Glassy river huh?” "Not fun to swim.” “Well try to relax, you are doing great, our river with glass…” Then I passed out Now I keep thinking about it. I always thought my name meaning was so lame, just a place description. But is it a metaphor? A river, always moving, full of life but… below the surface its sharp. The rushing water belies the valuable and dangerous deposits underneath. Now, I like my name meaning J I took this video at the Halloween parade of a giant ghost puppet dancing over the crowd. I love creative spectacles. This is the opening of Spencer Finch, "The Brain is Wider than the Sky" The artist replicated the night sky over Troy during the Trojan War with cans hanging from the ceiling. Each can had a tiny light. It was beautiful. As the planet becomes telematically unified, the self becomes dispersed. The convergence of dry silicon pixels and biologically wet particles is creating a moistmedia substrate for art where digital systems, telematics, genetic engineering and nanotechnology meet. A technoetic aesthetic not only will embrace new media, technology, consciousness research and non-classical science but also will gain new insights from older cultural traditions previously banished from materialist discourse. In the present post- 9/11 crisis, collaborative transdisciplinary research is needed if a truly planetary culture is to emerge that is techno-ethical as well as technoetic.Full paper here The artist Thomas Doyle has created snow globes that are deep and disturbing. More so than I ever thought a snow globes could be. He states: “Like most people, I’m interested in figuring out what it means to be human, and the work I’m making is the best way I’ve found to do that. If it shines a little light for other people, then all the better.” I wish I was crafty enough to make these Knit Converse All-Stars. If you are knitting inclined go here for instructions. Otherwise enjoy the cute pic This is a real portrait sample in a photo studio in Munich. They specialize in babies, photoshopped into "cute" (?) senarios. I think the egg is a metaphor. This is a place for me to comment and share all things that are not my own. I get inspired constantly just clicking around, and I hope you do too. Here is a picture from a opening I went to at Rafik Video , a place that makes video copies as well as holds shows. The artist is Jonathan Osofsky and I can relate. | Marketing
